Duden Waterfalls Antalya

Düden Waterfalls are among Antalya's most important natural beauties and a major tourist attraction. Formed by the Düden River, which flows from the Taurus Mountains into the Mediterranean Sea, the waterfalls are divided into two sections: Upper Düden Waterfall and Lower Düden Waterfall.

Upper Düden Waterfall

Located approximately 12 km from the city center, the Upper Düden Waterfall is also known as Alexander Waterfall. It is said that Alexander the Great watered his horses here during his conquest of Pamphylia in 334-333 BC. In 1970-1972, the State Hydraulic Works transformed the area into a picnic and recreational site. The waterfall cascades over a rocky cliff, offering breathtaking views from various vantage points. Although relatively small, the Upper Düden Waterfall provides a magnificent atmosphere with walking trails, picnic areas, and wildlife opportunities in Düden Park.

Locally, it is sometimes referred to as "Düdenbaşı Waterfall." Two large karstic springs, Kırkgöz and Pınarbaşı, emerge 28 km along the old Antalya-Burdur road. These rivers merge after a short flow and disappear underground in the Bıyıklı Düden sinkhole. The water travels underground for about 14 km before resurfacing at Varsak Depression, only to disappear again and reemerge at Düdenbaşı.

Visiting the waterfall is particularly enjoyable during the summer, as it offers a cooler climate compared to the city center. Visitors can relax to the soothing sound of the rushing water, enjoy a picnic, or take stunning photos of this picturesque spot.

Lower Düden Waterfall

Also known as "Karpuzkaldıran Waterfall," Lower Düden Waterfall is one of Antalya's iconic attractions. Located on the Lara road, the waterfall plunges 40 meters into the Mediterranean Sea. Visitors can enjoy the view both from land and sea, with boat tours offering a unique perspective of this natural wonder. We highly recommend taking a boat tour to fully appreciate the grandeur of the waterfall.

Nearby, Gençlik Park offers an ideal vantage point to observe the waterfall. Visitors can bring their own chairs and enjoy the scenic beauty. The area around the waterfall features walking paths and green spaces, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers.

Lower Düden Waterfall offers breathtaking views at sunrise and sunset, making it a must-visit destination for photography enthusiasts.
