Avlan Lake Antalya
Avlan Lake is a karstic lake located in the Elmalı district of Antalya. Situated at an altitude of 1,030 meters above sea level, the lake originally covered an area of 850 hectares.
In the 1970s, a decision was made to drain the lake to gain agricultural land, and between 1975 and 1980, a canal was built to divert its waters into Başgöz Stream. However, this drainage process negatively impacted the local ecosystem, agriculture, and livestock farming. Due to demands from the local community, a decision was made to restore the lake, and Avlan Lake was refilled.
In recent years, climate change and drought have posed a threat to the lake, causing it to dry up at times. In 2023, severe drought affected the area, but winter rains helped restore the water levels. However, due to declining rainfall, the lake has once again started to dry up.
Avlan Lake is also a popular destination for nature lovers and photographers. Visitors can enjoy walking around the lake, birdwatching, and admiring its breathtaking scenery.
