Konyaaltı Beach Antalya
Konyaaltı Beach, one of the most popular beaches in Antalya, is also frequently preferred by locals. It stretches from the port to the end of the cliffs. Known for its breathtaking views and pebble shoreline, Konyaaltı Beach began to develop in the 1980s and quickly became one of the city's iconic landmarks. The name "Konyaaltı," meaning "the bay beneath the cliffs," refers to the beach's location under Antalya’s cliffs extending towards the mountains.
It is believed that the beach was initially called "Koy-altı" (meaning "under the bay") due to its location below the cliffs along the Antalya coastline, which eventually evolved into "Konyaaltı" over time. Another theory suggests that during the Ottoman period, when Antalya was connected to Konya, the area used as a military gathering spot was called "Konyaüstü" (Konya-up), and locals began referring to the area below it as "Konyaaltı."
Konyaaltı Beach stands out as one of Antalya’s most beautiful beaches with its fine pebbles, cool waters, and the stunning view of the Taurus Mountains. Additionally, being a Blue Flag beach proves the high standards of water quality and environmental cleanliness. Along the beach, there are walking paths, parks, cafes, and restaurants offering a variety of social activities.
The area offers various activities such as walking, exercising, swimming, and sunbathing. Even during the winter months, visitors can enjoy the warm weather on the beach. During the day, you can cool off in the deep blue sea and in the evening, take a walk along the promenade to watch the sunset.
Getting to the beach from the city center is quite easy. The area can be reached by car in 15 minutes, and it is also accessible from Lara and Muratpaşa by public transportation.
In addition to the beach, there is a long promenade featuring restaurants, cafes, bars, and coffee shops offering delicious food and drinks to make your day enjoyable. You can also visit souvenir shops and local gift stores to purchase memorable gifts for your loved ones. The consecutive Blue Flag beaches in the area are known for their cleanliness and sustainability.
Konyaaltı Beach Park also offers a green area where visitors can have a picnic, go jogging, or simply relax. The park features walking paths, children's playgrounds, and spaces for outdoor sports such as volleyball and football. It also hosts concerts by local and international artists. For cycling, visitors can take advantage of the bicycles provided by the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality.
