Alara Han and Alara Castle Antalya
Alara Han and Alara Castle are historical structures located approximately 37 kilometers from Alanya, on the banks of the Alara River. Built in the 13th century by Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I, these structures were situated along the Silk Road, one of the most significant trade routes of the time.
Alara Castle was constructed ona steep rocky hill at an altitude of 200 to 500 meters. A hidden passage with 120 steps leads to the inner castle, where visitors can find a small palace, a bathhouse, rooms, and water cisterns. The castle served a defensive purpose, protecting merchants who stayed at Alara Han.
Locatedabout 800 meters from the castle, Alara Han sits by the Alara River. Built between 1231 and 1232, this caravanserai was designed to accommodate traveling merchants. The rectangular-plan structure features an arched entrance gate, a spacious courtyard, and rooms for travelers.
Today, Alara Han has been restored and opened to visitors, preserving its historical charm.
