Side Ancient City is located in the Side district of Manavgat, Antalya. It is not only one of the most important ancient cities of Antalya but also of Turkey. Side was founded by the Lydians in the 7th century BC. Under the influence of civilizations such as the Persians, Greeks, Romans, and Byzantines, Side Ancient City hosts many historical structures. In ancient times, Side was a port city and an important trade center, with numerous structures and remnants related to maritime trade.
It is believed that the name of Side has Anatolian origins and means "pomegranate." As soon as you enter, the city walls welcome you as if they are opening the doors to the past. The Roman Theater, dating back to the 8th century BC, has a seating capacity of approximately 15,000 people. With its magnificent architectural structure, it takes you on a historical journey from your seat. During the Roman period, it was used for gladiator fights and theatrical performances.
