Andriake Ancient City Antalya
The ancient city of Andriake, one of the most important port cities of the Lycian civilization, has historically been a key center of trade. Today, it offers visitors a unique exploration experience with both its historical ruins and natural beauty.
The history of Andriake dates back to the 4th century BC. Known as one of Lycia's major trade and port cities, this area experienced significant growth, particularly during the Roman and Byzantine periods. Serving as the harbor of the ancient city of Myra, Andriake played a crucial role in Mediterranean trade, becoming a center for the transportation of goods such as grain, salt, wine, and ceramics.
Over time, the port filled with alluvial deposits, transforming into a lagoon. However, its historical structures still stand, and stepping into this enchanting atmosphere allows visitors to feel its ancient spirit. One of the most remarkable structures of the ancient city is the large granary, built during the reign of Roman Emperor Hadrian. Today, this structure has been restored and opened to visitors as the Lycian Civilizations Museum.
Andriake is not only significant for its harbor but also for its ancient salt production areas. The salt pools, which can still be seen today, serve as proof of the region’s importance in Lycian commercial life.
