Etenna Ancient City Antalya

Located in Sırtköy Neighborhood, Manavgat, Antalya, at 900 meters above sea level, surrounded by pine forests, Etenna Ancient City is a fascinating site where history and nature merge beautifully.

Etenna is rarely mentioned in ancient sources, but it played a role in 218 BC, supporting Achaeus with 8,000 hoplites in his rebellion against the Seleucid Empire. The city is known to have minted its own coins from the 4th century BC to the 3rd century AD, indicating its economic and political significance in the region.

As you approach Etenna, you will encounter strong fortification walls that were built to protect the city. These walls, combined with its strategic hilltop location, made Etenna a highly defensible settlement. The Agora (ancient marketplace) was the center of commerce and social life, and remnants of public buildings and columns can still be seen today. One of the most striking features of Etenna is its large cisterns, built to provide the city with water.

At the foothills of Etenna, there are rock-cut tombs and monumental graves, believed to be the burial sites of the city's important figures. During the Byzantine period, Christianity spread in the region, leading to the construction of churches, the ruins of which still remain, showing Etenna's significance as a religious center.
