Giden Gelmez Mountains Antalya
These mountains are located between the provinces of Antalya and Konya, forming part of the western extensions of the Taurus Mountains. Stretching near the districts of Seydişehir, Akseki, and Bozkır, the Giden Gelmez Mountains are known for their high altitudes and rugged cliffs.
The mountains take their name from a chilling legend. According to the stories, many who entered this region in the past never returned. Some believe these disappearances were due to the harsh geographical conditions, wild animals, and extreme climate. Others claim that the mountains once served as a hideout for bandits, and those who ventured in never saw daylight again.
Giden Gelmez Mountains are not only home to mysterious human tales but also showcase nature in its purest form. The high altitudes support pine, cedar, oak, and other native vegetation, perfectly adapted to the region’s unique climate. The wildlife here is like something out of a nature documentary—foxes, eagles, wild goats, and rare animal species offer a spectacular sight for nature enthusiasts.
For centuries, these mountains have also served as a migration route for the Yörüks (Turkish nomads). During the summer months, you can still witness traditional Yörük life in the highland pastures, meet nomadic families living in tents, and experience an authentic cultural encounter.
