Karain Cave is one of the oldest settlement areas in human history. It has been a continuous settlement from the Lower Paleolithic period (approximately 500,000 years ago) to the Late Roman period. This feature makes Karain extremely important in terms of Anatolian and Near Eastern archaeology.

Excavations conducted in the cave since 1946 have uncovered stone tools, bone objects, ornaments, and even human fossils. These findings provide important information about human mobility and cultural interactions between Europe and the Near East.

What you will see in the cave includes:

Stone Tools:Flint tools from the prehistoric period.

Human Fossils: Remains of early humans.

Wall Carvings: Ancient human traces and simple drawings on the cave walls.

Karain Museum: A small museum located near the cave that displays the excavated findings.

Karain Cave is not only fascinating because of its history but also because of its natural surroundings. The cave is surrounded by pine forests and offers excellent hiking trails. The stone steps leading up to the cave entrance can be a bit challenging, but the view becomes more impressive with each step.

Entrance Fee: The Museum Pass is valid for Turkish citizens.

Visiting Hours: Hours may vary during the summer and winter seasons, but it is generally open from 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM.
