Kizilkule Antalya

After the conquest of Alanya by the Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I, a major construction effort was initiated in the city. During this period, Kızılkule (Red Tower) was built as one of Alanya’s most important defense points. Constructed in 1226 by the architect Ebu Ali Reha el-Kettani from Aleppo, the tower was designed to protect Alanya Harbor.

Named after the red bricks used in its construction, Kızılkule stands out with its 33-meter height and octagonal structure. The five-story tower also features a cistern inside, which was used to supply water for the soldiers stationed there.

Kızılkule has remained one of the most well-preserved structures from the Seljuk era. The lower part of the tower is made of cut stone, while the upper sections are built with red bricks. These sturdy materials not only provided durability but also added to the tower’s magnificent appearance.

When you reach the top floor of the tower, you are greeted with a breathtaking view of Alanya. From here, you can admire Alanya Castle, the endless blue of the Mediterranean, and Alanya Harbor from a stunning vantage point.

Today, Kızılkule is not only a historical landmark but also serves as a museum open to visitors. The tower houses the Alanya Ethnography Museum, where various artifacts reflecting the region’s history are exhibited.
