Kyaneai, one of the significant ancient cities of the Lycian region, is estimated to date back to the 4th century BC, although the exact founding date is not known. The city was part of the 13-city union of Lycia and was influenced over time by major civilizations such as the Roman Empire and Byzantium.

One of the most interesting aspects of Kyaneai is that, unlike other Lycian cities, it was abandoned over time due to wars and natural disasters. However, this abandonment has made the layers of the city's history even more distinct. Today, Kyaneai stands as one of the best-preserved ancient cities reflecting the traces of the past.

While Kyaneai is not as large as other ancient cities, it stands out due to its structures. Among the most notable structures in the city are the ancient theater, Neolithic burial structures, and rock tombs. These structures provide significant clues to understanding Kyaneai's social life and religious beliefs.

The rock tombs in the city are particularly striking. These tombs, which are an example of Lycia’s traditional burial architecture, are carved into the stones and contain various items. Kyaneai also features an ancient theater. Though small, this impressive theater was used for both religious ceremonies and entertainment during ancient times.

Additionally, the ancient aqueducts, which were constructed to meet the city’s water needs, are another important structure. Some of these aqueducts, which still stand today, showcase the advanced water management system and engineering knowledge of Kyaneai.
