Side Müzesi Antalya
Opened to visitors in 1962, the Side Museum holds the distinction of being the first museum established in a village in Turkey. The museum building itself is originally a Roman bath from the 2nd century AD. Over time, various additions were made, bringing it to its present form. Inside, you can find sections such as the Frigidarium (cold room), Tepidarium (warm room), Caldarium (hot room), and Sudatorium (sweat room).
As you walk through this ancient bath, you don’t just witness historical artifacts but also the elegance of ancient Roman architecture. Every stone and every column has a story to tell.
The museum houses artifacts from the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods. The exhibits, unearthed during excavations conducted between 1947 and 1967 by Prof. Dr. Arif Müfid Mansel, reveal the rich history of Side.
Inside the museum, you can observestatues of gods and goddesses from the Roman period. There are also large stone sarcophagi decorated with mythological scenes, coins minted in Ancient Side and its surroundings that provide insight into their eras, and stone inscriptions offering glimpses into daily life in ancient times.
Every corner of the museum reflects Side's importance as an ancient center. Here, you don’t just learn about wars and rulers—you also get a glimpse into the daily lives, beliefs, and artistic expressions of the time.
